It’s been a long time coming, and now the upper-level garden at Casa Castigliana is finally finished. Over the past several months a team of masons remade a long retaining wall at the back of the garden just under the ancient fortress. They leveled the top, and put a large terrace up there. It’s made with natural terracotta pavers and surrounded by dozens of lavender and sage plants as well as a fig tree. A team of creative electricians swooped in an illuminated all of it in a very dramatic fashion. Then we swooped in and added comfortable furnishings.
Now, it’s a peaceful retreat with a spectacular view looking across the valley toward the town of Montalcino. It’s the perfect place to pop a cork, sit in a comfortable chair and watch the sun go down. I guarantee you will find yourself in the exact same place the next evening and the next.
