Enjoy this toe-tapping video made by the residents of our village of Castiglione d’Orcia
Casa Castigliana was the community olive oil mill, or “frantoio,” many years ago and it still retains its vintage charm. Laid out over three levels, the townhouse is perfectly suited for one or two couples to enjoy the many pleasures of a Tuscan hill town. The house is arranged with the front entrance on the piazza, just inside the ancient archway called the “Porta di Sopra,” which is part of the original wall of the village.
You will enter into a large dining room and kitchen with soaring beamed ceilings and a cozy fireplace. The entire house was remodeled in 2016 and sports an updated kitchen, which has modern appliances and local limestone countertops that evoke a classic Tuscan feel. A few steps up is the first full bathroom, with a walk-in shower and washing machine, then a few more steps will bring you to the main level with a large living room with fireplace, a bedroom and another full bathroom with shower. Up a few more steps is an additional large bedroom with stunning views over the back garden and up to the ancient fortress. Both beds have queen mattresses.
Out the back door you’ll find the charming walled garden full of olive trees, grape vines and roses. There’s a terracotta dining terrace where you’ll spend many hours savoring the foods and wines of the region, and up just a few steps is an upper level terrace surrounded by lavender and herbs that has dramatic sunset views across the valley and to the famed wine town of Montalcino.
